hkbmac
I just switched from Nikon to Canon (woo Hoo). The first Eos lens I have bought is the EF 17-40 f4L I noticed last night while I was playing around with it that the manual focus ring will still turn after you past infinity and the other end of the lens. None of my Nikon lenses did this. IS it normal on EOS lenses?
NK Guy
Have a look at:
http://photonotes.org/articles/beginner-faq/ lenses.html#infinitymark
burachan40
The FTM clutch feels like your description. Not all EOS lenses have this feature. So, how do you like it on this side of the fence? ;-P
PuppyDigs
That's a feature and not a bug! Most ring-USM lenses with FTM do this. Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see. - Robert Hunter
hkbmac
This side of the fence is very nice ;) The autofocus speeds are incredible. Brian
ken_dobyns
Hi Brian, Just to be clear, the feature you have discovered is full time manual focusing. The clutch in the focus system allows you to modify the focus manually (using the focus ring) after the camera has achieved autofocus. Just keep your finget on the shutter button and twist the focus ring. Enjoy, Ken
NK Guy
Ah - didn't read your message in entirety. Yes, if you're referring to the ability to turn the focus ring *both* ways past the focus marks then that's because of full-time manual (ring USM in this case). oh_navi
My EF28 F2.8 does the same thing.
