Mamiya Sekor 1000 DTL

Recommended Posts

The Mamiya Sekor 1000 DTL was a really nice camera in its day. If I'm not mistaken you had a choice of spot or average metering patterns and that was a really sexy selling point back in the day. Nice camera though. I always wanted one. M42 lens mount too! What else could you need?

I digress. I found a listing for something that might fit the bill for you here: http://www.adorama.com/US%20%20%20%20136280.html or here: http://www.thecamerahunter.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=TCH&Product_Code=FLSHOE&Category_Code=FL. If that doesn't work for you why not consider getting one of those cheap "L" flash brackets like this: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=653&A=details&Q=&sku=131401&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation. Sure it makes the camera a little tiny bit bigger to handle; but on the plus side, it adds a bit more stability to the whole rig and get the flash a bit further away from the lens axis. Instant red-eye reduction without the associated pre-flash and electronics.

Charles, the 1000 DTL was my first SLR camera. I see them attached to used ones on fleabay all the time. The problem is that they often cause dents on the top of the prism, which can affect the camera's value (if they have much<g>). Fun camera though, and I remember the years I dreamed of owning one before I actually got one as a Christmas present.

Mike - It was my 1st SLR also. I bought it in 1969 for, as I recall right around $300. It still works fine although I rarely use it since going to digital a few years back. I use a camera primarily for vacation photos and the digital is so much nicer because you can view and edit your pictures on the laptop each evening - before you forget what they are. I just kind of wanted the flash shoe so the camera would be complete. The one I found through this forum looks exactly like the original and has a rubber cushion to prevent the denting you mention.
