brandondickson
Hey all - I recently bought a Mamiya C3 on Ebay, did some easy repairs and put a couple of rolls of film through it and I', having a great time. But, I made a mistake when I bought it. I didn't notice that it didn't come with the pop-up hood over the finder. Although I've gotten some fun shots, it's tough to see if I'm in focus because the ambient light washes out the view finder with out the hood. I found one on Ebay, but it's nearly what I paid for the camera body. I have 3 questions: Has anyone ever made a pop up hood? There are a bunch of finders for a Mamiya 645 on Ebay, is it compatible? Would another brand possibly be compatible? Thanks everyone! Brandon
conrad_hoffman
Don't know about compatibility, but a box of light cardboard would do the trick. IMO, having the pop up magnifier is essential for my old eyes.
c_watson1
Not compatible. Try to find a cadaver C3 with an undamaged WLF. Might not suit you but the reflex Porrofinder might be a possibility. Jochen_S
645? No way compatible; its smaller. Homebrewing: You have a magnifier? then maybe do a tent aroiund it from the black plastic bags your photographic paper comes in or any black fabric you might have laying around. I'm not familair with the C3 but love the chimneyfinder for C330 / C33 to pieces for it's additional flip in magnifier. To me it seems worth it's additional bulk and if I had to, I'd probably try to DIY such a thing. But upgrading from an open to a closed WLF felt worth it to me too (although focusing without the chimney's extra magnification can be a bit hard for me). wogears
There are a couple of these on eBay for a $30 opening bid.
