Making a loupe

Recently I have just sent Tuan an article on making my own homemade

loupe for his site. This was both a fun project and a learning

experience. You can read it

Well besides the fact that I stumbled upon this idea I was pleasantly

pleased with my discovery and thought it was worth sharing. Well

somebody has brought to my attention that Doug Paramore has beat me

to the idea.

Look for the answer by Doug Paramore.

I should have known that somebody as resourceful as Doug would have

discovered the technique before me. I believe it is only fair that

Doug is given the credit for the idea and I'll take a back seat on

this one as the scribe.

Kind Regards,

This sounds like a great do-it-yourself project. One of the pleasures of using a view camera is the opportunity for gadgeteering.

It should be pointed out, however, that the most expensive component, the lens, was free. If loupe manufacturers didn't have to pay for their lenses, I'm sure their loupes would be much less expensive also. I suspect the camera stores I frequent won't give away anything, but I will give it a try.
