jorge_garcia1
I know what is 1:1 magnification on film cameras: object size equals image size on film. But how do you define/calculate magnification on digital cameras (compact or SLR) ? I mean how do you compare the "macro power" related to different sized CCD or CMOS sensors ? Or how do you compare digital vs film magnification with same lenses on different bodies ? Regards Jorge Garcia
erick_lamontagne
1:1 is 1:1. It doesn't matter whether it's on 35mm, 4X5, CCD or CMOS.
greg_erker
Another way to think about it is, when you shoot at 1:1 the biggest object you can fit in the photo is the size of your film (or camera's CCD/CMOS sensor). At 1/2 life size the biggest object you can fit is 2x in each direction. And so on. Greg
