huw_finney
A while ago there was a thread about VC filters in a non drawed Focomat, I put forward the idea of a LED based VC bulb and one member said he wanted one. It is wrapped and ready to post and here is the story. I have made two LED based enlarger sources (huws.org.uk) so far, both fairly individual, this is the third, a more generic one for any 'looks at the top of the bulb' condenser enlarger. To install you wire the enlarger lead into..

huw_finney
The blue has twice the actinic value of the green and might as well have a red to make the light whiter for focussing and swing filter use. The LEDs are bright, the following shots where taken with the same lighting as the others!

huw_finney
No point in showing the lamp on, all I got was a coloured square. There is also a focus switch on the box to put everything on full brighness for composition/focussing.

mark-j
Huw: Very impressive. Are you willing to supply plans, or sell these? I assume this one works on 220V, what about 120V? Do you control the timing on the main incoming power, or with a separate set of dry contacts to control the power to a part of the circuits? Thanks for giving us a glimpse of your creative projects. huw_finney
100 to 250V, control by incomming power, sales might be possible, depends on how many people want one (1 so far)

henry_a
I think Focomats are the greatest 35mm enlarger ever and have for quite a while wanted one that coupled the variable contrast light source performance of my LPL4550 with the mechanical wonderfulness of the Focomat.

That time has come.

Watch for posts to come shortly on the testing and perfection of the MP VariContrast Bulb.
