Perhaps 48-bit images are the key reason why someone would want Pixelmator - apart from the nicer, Pro-like interface.<br /><br />However, John Gruber, who writes <a href="http://daringfireball.net/">Daring Fireball</a>, made an interesting (but non-conclusive) <a href="http://daringfireball.net/linked/2007/may#wed-30-pixelmator">observation</a>: the screenshots for Pixelmator are apparently created in PhotoShop.
