Mac OS X Leopard and A700 Remote Camera Control Software

Discussion in 'Sony/Minolta' started by tmorgan, Dec 3, 2007.

  1. If someone has a Mac, with Leopard installed, an A700 and the 'Remote Camera Control' software could
you tell me what you see when you start up the program and connect the camera.
Here is a screen shot of what I see:
That is, all of the number fields in the display panel (upper portion - the shutter speed, ISO, aperture
info) portion of the interface are garbled.
Camera control is active, I can see the camera settings change and can release the shutter, but the display
    panel text remains garbled.
I would like to know if this symptom is particular to my configuration, or general for this combination of
    operating system, software and camera.
I did try interacting with Sony support on this (chat first, then referral to a second level phone support
which re-took my report, put me on hold, then dropped the call after 20 minutes or so.

  2. Here is some more information on this software problem:
    • I found another Mac to try, and it also shows this behavior.
    • One person has reported this behavior over on the dyxum formum.
    • I sent in an email report to Sony support.

  3. Had a long 'live chat' with Sony support, reinstalled software but to no avail. Are there others
with the same problem? Maybe it helps sending email to or 'live chat' with Sony.
  4. Same Problem here. Sucks that Sony STILL hasn't provided an update :(
  5. Florian,

For what it is worth, I am pretty sure the Sony are at least aware of the problem, experience with their customer support not withstanding.
In addition to appearing on the usual Minolta/Sony boards, the problem has been described on this Sony sponsored blog more than once, which Sony staff appear to monitor.

I'd also like to see Aperture/Mac OS support for the A700 raw file format some time soon, it is taking too long for this to be provided by Apple/Sony.

  6. Sony, PLEASE, get your head out of you b*** and fix this issue!

And while you're at it, enable the interval snap functionality (which is hidden in the software!
Strings, graphics, buttons -- all there, just not enabled!)
  7. Finally, after an 8 months wait Sony produced a fix not only for the Camera Control Software but also for all the rest, firmware included (version 4).
    Thanks anyway, Sony. - Jos
