Leica has posted <a

href="http://en.leica-camera.com/photography/m_system/m8/">M8 firmware version

1.201</a> (click the link and then choose "updates" from the right-hand menu).

<p>

I've installed it and tested the AWB; it is much improved over the previous

useless AWB.

<p>

Some posters at LUF report that menu and review scrolling is also improved.

<p>

There are some reports at LUF of failed firmware updates. My update was

completely trouble-free.

I too prefer indecency as a general way of being.

However, that doesn't mean that I dislike efficiency.

When I first started on digital, I had to spend so much wasted time color correcting because I used AWB and shot raw, like everyone recommended. I was too concerned with technical matters and perfection and too unconcerned with pictures. With film, it was (and is) easy and quick to make these adjustments. All you had to do is know your base filter pack for your film. The film's color response was constant shot to shot, so you could always test a sheet at neutral filtration to find out exactly how far off you were. Using a preset WB has the same effect. The point is not to be perfect, but to be able give yourself an accurate reference. It was quite an adjustment getting used to having to spend so much time on each print. However, ever since I quit treating digital like digital and started treating it like any other of my cameras, things go much more smoothly and quickly, and my results are far better.
