larry n.
Just a quick question to make sure I'm not doing anything to harm my camera. If I set my lens on Manual Focus, can I go ahead and turn the focus ring even if I have the camera body (an F100) set on one of the Auto focus settings? This won't harm the camera? (It's not an AF-S lens. Just a regular Nikkor that has an M/A switch). Thanks a bunch.
hal_bissinger
Yes. That's what it's for.
erick_lamontagne
There are a handful of lenses where you have to switch both camera and lens on M. The old 300/4 EDIF is one of them. I don't know which are the other (180/2.8??) but they are easy to recognize. You'll feel some resistance in the focusing ring when the camera switch is on A. larry n.
Thank you both very much! Now I remember the source of my confusion. I had read that with the 180/2.8D and the original 300/4 you have to move BOTH the switch on the camera and the lens to go back and forth between manual and auto focus.
