I have brand new LR5. It stops working quite often for tens of seconds and then goes on again. Other have same issues? LR4 had no such difficulties. The hole computer stop then and no other program can be used.

A lot of these graphic programs that process large photographs need a large "scratch pad" area for processing, saving "undo" pages, etc. If there isn't enough memory allocated to this, the program will use the hard drive for temporary storage, and that may interrupt the work flow. Just one possibility.

CPU model / speed / number of cores

disk drive model / rotational speed

Do you store the lightroom catalog / previews on the boot drive?

How much memory you have in the computer?

Did you recently import a lot of photographs?

What is the default preview size you have defined?

Are you doing anything just before you see the lockup?

Have you done the "optimize catalog" recently?
