Hello,
Some time ago I read a real world comparison of some film and digital cameras in which I believe the D40 did surprisingly well and the film froze up at some point. I can't seem to find it after searching. Does anyone remember having read the same forum post / have the link? I'm not sure where it was posted. Thanks.

I did the original test, here is my original DPreview D100-300 forum thread, you need to check out several of the posts:
http://www.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1039&message=30661032
It is also commented on in this D40-D90 forum thread:
Only D40x continued to work after 10h at -40°C/F
and here in the present forum:
Only D40x continued to work after 10h at -40°C/F -Test of D200, D40x, F4, F2A
http://www.photo.net/nikon-camera-forum/00S6wW
Again keep in mind that only one sample of each camera was tested. I had hoped to get responses that would cast more light on this regarding D40x, however the response had to little information to draw further conclusions. The main conclusion was pretty clear though, that under most circumstances the digital SLRs tested will work longer in the cold than the photographer as long one keep swapping in fresh warm batteries.
