barefoot
Dear All, Can anyone recommend, as a source of inspiration, a street photographer currently making a name for him/herself shooting street scenes in London. I've looked at some of Brandt's work in the East End - which I like alot - but am really interested in the contemporary angle so to speak. Thanks, Stuart
john_sidlo
Check out black and white photography by r. gardiner
. I don't think Gardiner is not doing this for a living (not many do), but has done a lot in NYC and now London.
erin.e
Thanks for that link John, Mr Gardiner is very good, has an ability to work with various formats, and some of his pinhole images are exquisite. He's not bad with that M6 either, I especially liked the one of the woman "Mopping up Africa"
andrew_lee2
In-Public.com has work by one or more London-based street photographers. John Brownlow's early "Human Traffic" work from Oxford Street is beautiful and near-legendary, in my mind. Gary Alexander and Jawed Ashraf take a more modern, formal, color street photography approach to the streets of London. jorn ake
Try Nick Turpin's work (http://www.nickturpin.com/). Seems he is actually using his street photography commercially through an agency called Balcony Jump (http://www.balconyjump.co.uk/home.html) I am not sure what the return is like, but he seems to be working. barefoot
Thanks for your input. I had a good look at Jawad Ashraf's site yesterday and it was quite strange as he and I have photographed very similar scenes. This was very positive feedback for me. All too often I have rejected shots feeling they lacked interest. It is good to know someone else is shooting these scenes. I shall explore the other photogs over the w/end.
