Thank you every one who commented on my previous questions about

purchasing a Linhof S617 III Technorama from Robert White. I am in

Australia and it went realy well and in lighting speed.

I am now looking at purchasing some more equipment from Robert White

for the Linhof 617 to use for landscape photography and would

appreciate everyones opinion on this equipment.

***Tripod- Gitzo G1325 carbon fibre (no centre column)

***Head- Manfrotto/Bogan 410 Geard Head

***Light Meter- Sekonic L-608

***Filter Holder & Filters (polarizing and ND Grad.)

-Cokin Xpro series OR Lee push on filter holder and filters

***Cable Release- 34cm Linhof OR 50cm Professional Hama

What are your thoughts on this set up and what filter system would

you suggest.

Thank you for your valued opinion,

Scott.

I think your selections are very good.

I have used the 410 head and like it a lot. The ability to dial in small leveling adjustments, precisely and quickly is very nice. It is heavy if you are carrying gear for any distance. A ballhead (I'm using a Arca Swiss B1 now) is another option.

I use a Sekonic meter (5xx--don't remember the exact number) and like it also.

I would go with the Lee filter system vs Cokin.

I use the Gitzo CF1228 with Arca-Swiss BI head. I use the Really Right Stuff plate on the camera body, the meter is a personal thing you can do as well for 1/2 the price but that's up to you. For filter's I use the LEE system, you will need to put the center filter on first and add your grads in front so you have to spring for a custom holder $$$$ or attach them with gaffers tape. What's the outside dimension of your CF? Mine is 105mm on the 90SA so I needed a push on holder of 108mm Lee can do this for you if you give the correct dimension. I douubt Cokin can help you here and LEE grads are more neutral anyway, e-mail off line if you need more specifics.

Scott,

I have a Linhof 612 Technorama. I cannot comment on the specific equipment that you are considering. I am responding just to say that you need to be careful about the size of the platform on the head that you choose. If the platform is too large you will need to remove the camera from the head in order to unlock it and remove the back (for changing film). At least this is true for the 612. Perhaps the 617 provides more room for the lock mechanism (located on the bottom of the camera). I use a medium-size Linhof ball head for my camera. I hope this quick note is clear and will be of some help.
