kelly_wheaton
My partner and I were on a shark cage diving tour and happened to see (and film) some orca whales attacking a great white shark. We have been contacted by a production company who works for discovery channel and they are interested in licensing the footage. They have asked for our rates for the following packages: Can you provide rates for the following rights packages? 1) Media: All media Territory: Worldwide Term: In Perpetuity Per second rate: $___ 2) Media: All media (excluding theatrical media) Territory: Worldwide Term: 10 years Per second rate: $___ 3) Media: All media (excluding U.S. Standard TV & theatrical media) Territory: Worldwide Term: 10 years Per second rate: $___ We are complete amateurs and have no idea where to begin with prices. Does anyone have any base prices we can start at or even some advice on where to go from here? We know the footage is very rare and that no one else has similar footage of the same quality. We don't want to go in at a ridiculous price but also don't want to miss out on money as we assume they have a very big budget! They want the footage for a feature film they are making. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks :)
2d
Getty images licenses stock footage I would start by going to their site and seeing how they are charging for similar licensing rights. (pretend like you are a buyer)
What I would NOT do is go to a site like pond 5 and find out how much royalty free footage costs. Those rates are way below what is being ask of in terms of worldwide broadcast
-------------- My Architectual Photography: Architectural-Cinematographer.com
