JDMvW
Teardown of the Canon EOS R Mirrorless Camera So, which would I buy, right now? None of the above; I don’t know enough yet, and I try very hard to avoid Generation 1 technology. If you forced me into a corner and said: “if you made your living with a camera, what would you shoot today?” I’d say either a Sony with a lot of adapted lenses or an SLR.

rodeo_joe1
Good insight into what Canon have done... and not done. I find it a bit astounding that camera companies take a DSLR, remove the mirror, prism, AF and metering sensors, thus reducing the need for alignment of same, take away half of the body material.... and then increase the price by around 20%! Robin Smith
But it is cheaper than the 5DIV which was $3500 at launch...But of course the labor/cost of materials does not really come into it does it? It is all about price points: see Apple Robin Smith
brett_w.
yes, it's about price points and sales. If Canon doesn't sell enough EOS-R then the price will come down or a "new" model will be introduced

Ed_Ingold
Two tear-downs published this week, first a Nikon E7 then a Canon R. From Sony's point of view, that's a good start ;) I just purchased a Fotodiox Sony-Nikon (F) adapter, which allows camera control of the aperture for chipped lenses, and auto-focus for AF-S lenses. It wouldn't surprise me if someone did the same for Sony lenses on the E6/7.
ilkka_nissila
The initial costs of a new system can be very high, which is why Nikon reported that the Z launch decreased their overall profitability. I would imagine it is the same for Canon.
