larry n.
I have an AF 24mm 2.8D, which I've discovered is prone to ghosting/flaring even when the sun is outside the frame. Sometimes I like to use a filter, but I only have 77mm filters so I use a stepup ring. Is there any way to add a lens shade or hood to this lens when using 77mm filters in order to control the ghosts?
nate_mertz
Yes, use a 77mm screw in wide angle filter.
larry n.
Nate--my question is how to attach a hood on the contraption. The hood designed for the 24mm lens has 52mm threads.
nate_mertz
Most rubber hoods have threads on the front too. Simply put the hood on, then the step up ring, then the filter. This may not work if the ring is bigger than the hood, but its the only way unless you get a bigger hood.
david_kelly1
Nikon does not make a rubber hood for this lens (HN-1, the correct hood, is metal) but 52mm filters are inexpensive............
larry n.
It's true that 52mm filters are less generally less expensive, but the one I'm looking (Nikon Polarizer) is a little pricey. Does anyone know why Nikon makes hoods for its polarizer filters? They don't say what lenses the hoods are good for. The one for the 77mm polarizer is called HN-34.
