Lens/Flash pop-up are "stuck"

I have an Olympus 00 Stylus Zoom 140 that I have enjoyed immensely for point

and shoot. During a birthday party a year ago, we suspect a child tried to

force the lens cover closed before the lens had completely withdrawn into the

case. Whatever the cause, the inner mechanism can be heard whirring and

struggling, but the lens does not pop out, and the pop-up flash unit does not

pop up. I have not had success in locating an authorized repair location, but

am wondering if this is something we could maybe jiggle with and correct on our

own. The camera is older, but was still giving excellent service.
