erikhaugsby
Looks like a Russian FED to me.
david j.lee
Agustin, i am checking Sartorius book, and the serial number belongs to a leica standard (R- rarity grade ). but it says it was produced in black and chrome only. it looks fake to me, but i am sure argentina is full of real leicas looking for a new owner. david j.lee
nice portfolio, by the way. saludos desde mexico!
Alex_Es
It is a Russian camera with the chrome taken off. There is a market for Russian fake Leicas, but they aren't worth much.
l._david_tomei1
It's not a Leica. David
adrian bastin
Are there thousands of these things out there ? Or is it just this one ugly little beast doing the rounds.
drew_back
Looks way cool but it definately looks fake but it should be fun to use enjoy
steve salmons
A horrible fake and way overpriced. Also the pictures are small enough and selective enough not to give away too much of the fakery.
l._david_tomei1
I do not believe that the dealer does not know that the camera is worth no more than US$20. There is nothing amusing about these fakes particularly when they are offered for sale to honest people as real Leica cameras. David
agustin barrutia
Thanks a lot to everyone for their responses!! gaijin
Why do people that should know better keep falling for this fake Russian junk?
Rob F.
Augustin, it is a Russian fake. In this case (and very often in general) the first thing to check is the appearance of the frame around the front finder window. On this one, the top edge of that frame comes up even with the top of the rangefinder cover. It shouldn't. On a real Leica, the top edge of the frame will be below the level of the camera top. If it is flush with the top, that is a dead giveaway that it's a russian copy. Also of note is the engraving on the camera top, which, compared to a real Leica, just doesn't look right. The spacing is wrong, and the letters and words look too cramped and crowded. The more you look the more clues you see, but those are two red flags. winfried_buechsenschuetz1
ALL gold/brass "Leicas" with a rangefinder are fakes. There is a certain number of Leica I with gold plating (Leica Luxus), and just two Leica II items made with gold plating by Leitz. All others except these two are fakes, mostly of east european origin.

billsr
The words "Leitz" and "Wetzlar" are incorrectly spelled on the camera as "Letz" and "Wetzler". Does anybody else see that? Best, Bill
mukul_dube
The spelling seems OK, Bill. I only wish the image of the shutter release button was clearer.
