dennis_biela
Thinking of buying the Leica 180mm f/2.0 Apo Summicron R to use on Canon bodies. I have read where the sharpness tops out at f5.6 but how is it at f2 or f2.8 anyone use it compared to the Canon 200mm f2 IS. I can go without IS and autofocus since it will be used on a tripod but would want the best image quality when shooting wide open. If you could post a few samples or email me an image. Thanks Dennis
Robin Smith
Dennis,

It will be a miracle if you get anyone who has actually used both. They are both optically superb. But I would give the nod to the Canon because it has IS - I know you are using a tripod, but at least the Canon has accurate auto metering on both Av, Tv and P modes and auto aperture in addition to the useful IS. I guess nowadays the Leica might actually be cheaper than the Canon though.
Robin Smith
charlie_chan2
I doubt the Leica 180/2 is cheaper. The last couple went for about GBP2200-2400. It's a rare lens and so copies don't come up too often.
As for IQ, I've posted a reply on your other thread.

Best wishes,

Charlie
