gauthier
I recently bought (very cheap!) a few envelopes of Kodak DirectPositive Film Redeveloper in photo swap. Given the price of Scala +processing (not to mention dr5!) the idea of reversing normal B&W filmsounds attractive. But... There is no intructions at all of the package, apart from mxinginstructions (... makes 16 fluid ounces). I can figure out that myfilm has to be normally processed first and (I believe) not to befixed yet (and kept in the light proof tank awaiting the 2nd bath!)but for the rest I don't know. - Is the product optimized for some Kodak film/developer combo? Thereis no mention of T-Max stuff anywhere. I normally process HP5+ inHC-110 in a small tank (135, 120) or in a Unicolor drum (4x5, 8x10). - there is no indication about how long the redevelopment will take - what about fixing? When do you do it? - any other hint? I'm fairly advanced in photo lab techniques, mixing my own brews andalt processes, but I'm new to reveral and I don't own much fancyequipment - long times at critical temperatures, as in E6 processing, are out of reach for me right now. jimvanson
Here is Kodak's September 1999 J-87 Kodak TMax 100 Direct Positive Film Developing.
gauthier
This is unfortunately not the product I refer to. My outfit contains no first developer, only a redevelper and a bleach; at it makes 16 ounces of the stuff, not 32 like the T-Max 100 direct positive kit. This is what makes it confusing to use! walter_degroot
FROM KODAK DIRECT POSITIVE FILM DEVELOPING OUTFIT INSTRUCTIONS kp 26286 4-64 ( APRIL 1964) this was intended either for kodak direct poritive or panatomix-x film. redeveloper: 8 minutes at 68 deg f. should be freshly prepared 68 deg f 20 deg c. will process 2-36 exp rolls of film simultaneously. when developed in sucession the 2nd roll should be developed for 10 minutes at 68 deg f. in order to compensaye for reduction in redeveloper activity. if the sol, ution is more than 2 hours old , it should be discarded and a replaced with freshly prepared redeveloper solution. afterwards rinse for 5 minutes and then fix the steps were: 1st dev , rinse, bleach, clearing bath, redevelopment, rinse, fix , wash wash and rinse are water. note: i still have some - somewhere. be cautious when opening, it can mess up an area where you have photo film. and fog it. mine came in packets like the old MQ developer. like a giant matchbook cover. 1) i still miss kodak panatomic - x 2) I did this and tried other 1st developers and other films, it seemed to work in 1965. other solutions may keep longer. 3) i do not have the formulas, try movie film formulas. 4) i have the leaflet and can scan and print it
gauthier
Yes, that it. My own envelopes are more recent - no earlier than the 1990's I guess. So, it was used for Panatomic-X? Hmmm. I'll have to find the closest modern equivalent, then. And some bleach, as well - there is none with the kit. Perhaps a potassium ferricyanide bath? It's messy, but it works well on film. rodeo_joe1
I think the OP might have gone ahead with the processing anyway by now Glen. The OP date is 2004!
glen_h
Well, just in case anyone else is interested. I suspect that mine is older than that. Strangely, it came with safelight bulbs and enlarger bulbs. (Conveniently the right one for my enlarger, but I already have two.) I might try developing a roll in the D67 to see what happens. -- glen
