John Seaman
I recently sold a Uni-Loc (Benbo type) tripod, along with a Kennet Engineering pan / tilt head. The buyer is very pleased with it but he did ask me a question - there is an internal screw thread in the round plastic knob on the shorter of the two tighteners. He wondered if this had a purpose, any ideas? You can see it to the right hand side of the picture. Thanks in advance.
rodeo_joe1
It looks like the original handle has broken, and part of a 'Hoselok' connector has been substituted. Is that a rubber O ring on the outside of the smaller collar? I don't have a good mental picture of my Benbo pan-tilt head, but I'm pretty sure the tilt-locking handle doesn't look like a Hoselok connector. It's in storage somewhere, and I can't check at the moment.
John Seaman
Thanks for the response Joe. It did occur to me that it was some kind or replacement. But I'm pretty sure that the arrangement, with one grip long and thin, the other short and fat, is original to the Kennett. I googled and a very poor picture of one, hopefully the moderators won't delete it: I don't have the tripod anymore but it did seem original, with similar plastic to the long grip, not like the typical Hoselok plastic at all. John Seaman
Now I'm having second thoughts, after finding a better picture, showing a similarly shaped knob but of a quite different pattern. . Perhaps it is a Hoselok after all? Did you ever wish you hadn't started something?
rodeo_joe1
The picture immediately above is exactly the same as my Kennett-made Benbo pan/tilt head. No threads in the plastic grip, and having a galvanised nut at the join with the metal rod. However, it wouldn't surprise me if Kennett outsourced the handles on later models from Hoselok or a similar company.
