david_h._hartman
K-Ring Set and the Nikon F5, Just the facts maam (or sir). I just ordered the Nikon Extension Ring Set K (1~5) and am wondering if there are any compatibility issues with the Nikon F5 body? There are a dozen or so No-Nos in the F100 manual including both the K1 and K2 Rings but I cant find a similar listing in the F5 manual. Im not too interested in AF lens compatibility issues at this time. I own other Nikon bodies that are fully compatible. Thanks! Dave.
plattro
The Nikon F5 manual (pg 131) lists the K2 as incompatible. Comparing it to a BR2A, the difference must be REALLY small.
david_h._hartman
Thanks Rob! The K1 Ring is not mentioned. I hope this means the K1 is compatible. I sure wish I could get a searchable PDF copy of the F5 manual. Ive looked at a BR-2 and BR-2a briefly and wondered what the difference is. Ill have to look again. plattro
The difference doesn't seem to be visibly noticeable. I believe it is probably a clearance issue of some fraction of a millimeter, or several thousandths of an inch. Most likely something with the bevel at the edge of the bayonet, perhaps it puts stress on the plastic holding the CPU contacts and could cause a crack. Maybe. I think you would need machinist's tools (dial Calipers, surface plate, Jo blocks,...) to measure what it really is.
david_h._hartman
Ive found that the K2 Ring fits the F5 but only locks in two out of three positions.
