I've built an app for film 'exif' tracking with 1 tap on lock screen or smart watch. iOS/Android

Hello everyone!

 

I haven't posted on this website for many years, and haven't been a terribly active member to start with, so please tell me if I am posting in the wrong forum.

 

I have switched to film photography a couple of years ago and found it very fulfilling and satisfying, however one things that the pedantic me missed was metadata. I like to document and catalogue my photos: time, location, exposure data, miscellaneous notes for memories, etc. I have tried several 'film exif' apps available but none of them really worked for me. What I wanted was:

1. Zero setup
   
2. Single click shot recording
   

So, being a programmer albeit having 0 experience in app development, I decided to build my own. Here is the result

 

Lock screen widgets, Android and iOS, simply tap on a roll to record a shot. There is also a concept of 'Set of holders' for LF users, more on it later

 

You can also record from your a smart watch. Here is a demonstration for Apple Watch.

Android Wear works very similarly, the only difference is that you need to enable the 'wearable' mode from the menu

 

To make this work you start with a Roll or a "Set of holders" - everything is optional and up to you. Both apps come with a lot of preloaded data about cameras, emulsions, etc. It will also remember your favourite settings and help you setting up new rolls and sets. The metadata you prefill here then gets propagated to the shots as you record them, which is what makes 'single tap' work. You can edit metadata per frame too if you need

You can also take reference picture to help you recognise the developed negatives. This can be done for both roll/set or each frame

 

Once the roll is setup, all it takes is a click to record shots. You can do it from lock screen, watch or the main app.

Roll/Set content screen: here you will see the first difference between a Roll and a Set of holders - the latter will number shots as 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B etc and display emulsion/ISO per each shot

 

Tapping on a frame, open frame edit screen. If it's a Set, you can also edit Emulsion/ISO

 

 

Finally a feature a lot of people like is workflow tracking

You can track your rolls from your camera to lab and back to digitising/printing/archiving

No particular workflow is enforced, it's all up to you.

The 'Inactive' status is designed to hide the rolls/sets that are not in active use to declutter the lock screen and watch screen - they only display the 'Active' rolls

yes please move to Digital Darkroom. I overlooked it, having assumed it was about RAW files processing rather than film scanning
