March 6, 2010 7:23pm, 6lb 9oz, 18.75 inches.

Last Saturday March 6th, my son Oliver was born. A couple weeks early, so he clocked in at a not-huge 6lb 9oz. Slight scare because his cord was wrapped not once but twice around his neck. But the delivery was quick and all was well. Both baby and mom are healthy and doing fine. Once again, it was one of the most amazing events in my life. Watching a birth is fascinating on so many levels. But then to adding the fact that it is my own child, well it's hard to describe. But I'm sure that most people will understand where I am coming from.

The first week of toddler + newborn in our house has been more than a little tiring. You forget just how much attention and how little of a schedule the tiny ones have. But our son Jack is being a trooper about it and his grandparents have been making an extra effort to be around a lot to play with him and make him feel special. Still, I have to admit that I felt like I was in the middle of some bad made for TV "this is being an adult" movie when I had the screaming infant in my arms, the screaming toddler clutching my leg, and the dog throwing up on the carpet at 2am the first night we were back home with Oliver. It honestly did make me laugh out loud at myself.

Thanks for all the kind words that were left on this thread . As I said after the birth of my first child, I spend so much time dealing with complaints and problems it's really nice to be reminded that there is a good community of people here and that we all have more in common than we do different.

Now I have to get to my pile of 500 emails. Please be patient if you are waiting for a reply or help from me, I'm doing my best.

it really means something when you are at work knowing you now have children of your own. You think of it constantly.

That's one of the best parts of my current job Walter, to see my kids I just have to walk in from my office in the shop. It's a 35 foot commute.

Congratulations Josh and Mrs. Root! Make sure Oliver is posting to the Philosophy board soon.
I'm anxiously awaiting the birth of my second, which should happen no later than the 26th. Good to know that it's survivable. :)

Josh, Congratulations! I must say the scene you described seems like it would be a fabulous photo, despite or because of your discomfort. Sadly, you wife was probably getting her much needed nap at that time. You need to have one of those diligent family members hang around to capture an award winner like that, with the 2 kids and the dog. Or recreate it. It would bring new meaning to "Mr. Mom"!
Oliver is fantastic!
Best regards, Leora
