Is this site even functioning properly???

  1. Please note that this is the SECOND account I have set up in the last couple of weeks, simply because I can't CONTACT anyone for help regarding the FIRST account!

    Several weeks ago, I signed up here under my real name, read and (hopefully) understood the Terms and Conditions for this site, and per request, submitted five photos for review in order to get the site activated. Well, I can log on now, but I can't seem to do anything else, because for some reason I am banned from posting for supposed violation of the rules.

    What rule in particular? How would I know? I can't post in this forum under my original login to find out WHY, because of course I have been banned, and the only contact e-mail I have been able to figure out apparently doesn't work either (see reply below):

    So, will somebody please explain to me what is going on here? Is this site even being maintained? Does somebody act as an admin and check regularly to make sure things work, or even check e-mails? Can somebody reply to me? If not, can you please just delete my account since there seems to be no interest in running a functioning website?

  7. Hmmm, I was just looking for some clues, or awareness of others with recent funny experiences. I've been wanting to change my registered email address for the last few weeks. Whenever I try, and click Save Changes, or whatever the button is, the website just shows ".... saving", in red, alongside the button but never ultimately saves. It just hangs. Tried contacting Photo.net via whatever means they offered on the main pages ... again, working from memory ... and its just hopeless or impossible. Recall just getting blank black screen save for some sort of logo across the top.

  8. Same for me. I can't update my email address on the Photo.net account page. I can update other info without problems, but the email-address update just isn't working.
     
  9. I get the suspicion that this site has been abandoned by its owners. Perhaps they fired the only person on the staff with any type of website experience? Wouldn't be the first time that has happened.

    'There are Email issues that have been reported and acknowledged. I have followed up on those communications. As an unpaid volunteer, there is nothing more I can do. Sorry.".
     
  11. OK, I understand that there's nothing more that you can do. I guess what I'm asking is if there are any responsible adults in charge, it certainly doesn't seem that way.

  12. There haven't been any responsible adults in charge of this site in a long time and there likely never will be again.

    Sandy does what he can however through no fault of his own, that doesn't amount to much. After the present owners ran this site into the ground through bad management they decide to follow that up with total neglect. Likely the only reason the site remains online is that they forgot to turn the lights out when they left.

    Ladies and Gents - my frustration at least equals your own. I have sent queries, detailed suggestions, and even developed a possible Plan B or C or whatever for PN. I gave my word that I would hang on and do what little I can for the site, and will do so till the bitter end. Stated or unstated, I believe several of the volunteer moderators may feel the same way.
     
  14. Understood, I do appreciate that Sandy is at least responding, so I'm certainly not blaming for a situation that is out of control. I'm going to carry this discussion a bit further by replying to Sandy here.
     
  15. Sandy, let me make it clear that I'm not pointing the finger at you in any way. In fact, I'm appreciative that you even respond to all these complaints, and I'm sure you do the best under the circumstances. Based on what I have seen from your efforts here, it's seems that you have a "sense of ownership" regarding this place that is quite commendable, in fact it seems you have it more so than the people who actually own it.

    If it's any comfort to you, I have found myself on more than one occasion working for or with an organization where I got the impression that I was the only one who cared.
    Nothing is more demoralizing than feeling abandoned by those who are working for, or having a vision of what something could be that is neither understood nor shared by others.Seems whoever stated this site either lost interest or vision along the way. Do they even care what happens to it? If not, would they consider turning it over to some other parties that might be interested in making the effort, if only to get it off their own backs? Just asking...

    I know you and I have had our differences, but I do recognize and appreciate the work that you put in to keep this site functioning.

    It frustrates me to no end that a once great site has seemingly been abandoned by the ownership, and you and the rest of the team here are doing the best you can with your available resources to keep things going.

    What's Glenn's status these days? Is he no longer associated with the site?

    I have no idea what Glenn's current status is. He is still listed as Staff, but has not been on line for a considerable time. I have no information on or input into actions of site owners. I and some others will continue to use the tools we have control of to do what we can. As they used to say at the end of Looney Tunes cartoons, "That's All, Folks!"
