Is this dust or something else in 300mm f2.8

Seems to consistent for just dust or even fungus. Could be coating, or "schneideritis", or separation. If it is mostly to the perimeter of the lens it will have little to no effect. It could take many years to spread across the lens and even then it may only reduce contrast slightly.

If it is fungus, it could be slightly more serious, but still no effect for a long time, probably.

 

I've never had much luck so far as I could tell, but people say exposure to UV-A (which apparently does penetrate glass) could kill the spores, but of course, not remove the spots.
