frank uhlig
Dear All, just looking into lens reversal with Nikon BR-2a and BR-5 adapters, I am wondering if the 58 -> 62 mm "Macro Adapter ring BR-5" is any different from a stepdown ring from 62mm to 58mm. Is the Nikon ring bigger, stronger, with longer threads, ... ? Is it really worth the $ 22 at B+H, versus the price of a stepdown ring at $7? Thanks! Robert_Lai
It is a 62 to 52mm step down ring. I have one to couple my 60mm f/2.8 Micro Nikkor to the slide duplicator ES-2, which was made initially for the 55mm f/2.8 Micro Nikkor. The 60mm lens has a 62mm filter size, but the original 55mm lens has a 52mm filter size. In order to use the accessories made for the 55mm lens, I need to use a step down ring. Given the delicacy of the construction of the 60mm lens, I wouldn't reverse it.<p>However, the response to your question is: "Yes, it's just a step-down ring."<p>It's nicely made and finished, but I'm sure that a cheap outsourced "Made in India" ring would do the same thing.
