eric_m4
Hello, Is the Intrepid Enlarger Kit LED light source (Intrepid Enlarger Kit - The Intrepid Camera Company) equivalent to a diffuser or condenser light source? Thanks.
rodeo_joe1
It's a diffuser source, since no condenser system is involved. You can see that it's placed directly over the negative with no space for condensers. You could easily knock up something similar with a few white LEDs and a sheet of 'opal' Perspex (plexiglas), plus a black plastic project box. hjoseph7
This is very interesting ! I was waiting for a friend of mine to finish his DIY darkroom so I could use his 4X5 enlarger. Who knows when that's going to happen ? This kit might suit my needs just fine and it doesn't break the bank, or take up a lot of room. Thanks for the info. rodeo_joe1
Bear in mind that you can't use just any old 5"x4" camera. The GG back has to be removed and replaced with a negative holder, which shouldn't leak light past it. The camera also needs a good deal of bellows extension, and preferably will take an enlarging lens for best image quality. Turning a plate camera into a horizontal enlarger was common practise back in the late C19th and early C20th. Usually with something like a simple mains bulb in a tin-can reflector and a sheet of opal glass.
