Imacon Presion III max file size, how to?

  1. I am currently scanning some 4x5s on my friends Imacon Precision III
scanner and can only get a max file size of around 400-450mb at
16bit. I read that this model has a max file size of 1.2gb. Does
anyone out there have experience and know how to get this size? I
want to get the best quality and size possible so that I can blow
them up to a huge print size. thanks

That's the biggest optical resolution for 4 by 5 the Imacon offers (2040)

It's enough for very large prints...try them, the results are stunning. Of course if you really need massive prints, this might be a job for a drum scanner.

You can get close to 1.2 gig off 6 by 17cm film at 3200....

It's a variable resolution film scanner depending on the size.
  3. Download and install the latest Imacon software. Then drag your crop lines just inside the border of your 4x5 tranny and presto, the resolution settings available will jump significantly -- like up to 3200 PPI. While it's not the entire aea of your original, I found that even just cropping out the border and clip marks allowed much higher scan resolutions.

  4. Just out of curiosity, how long does it take the Imacon to make a 1.2GB scan?
