travis_mccormack
I just picked up a mamiya c330 it came with a black 80mm lens but it has different markings on it than my other black 80mm lens. I was wondering if there is a reference guide to all the different lens and versions of each lens for the mamiya c220 and c330? I am trying to figure out if one is better than the other.
Thanks

mike_rosenlof2
Post a photo!
There are at least two black versions of the 80mm lens, and more would never surprise me. There is a newer 'S' version, mine has the PC socket more embedded into the lens board. The older non-S version has a protruding PC socket. You might find even older versions that don't have click stops on the aperture ring. Etc...

travis_mccormack
Great thanks the c330 came with the 80mm 2.8 'S' according to the link Tom posted.
I don't see any difference in the specs between the 80mm 2.8 & the 80mm 2.8 'S'
The only difference I see is that the markings are in different places. Is one better than the other?
marc_batters
There were at least five (5) different 80mm lenses for the Mamiya, C Series line of TLR cameras.
Four of the lenses were all f:2.8, while one, a budget chrome lens, was offered as a f:3.5. This budget chrome lens is easily identified, by having both the cocking lever, and the shutter trip lever on the photographer's right side. The only lens in the line-up to do so.

In ascending order of oldest to latest, and with better shutters, and improved coatings, the lenses are:
1) 80mm, Chrome, f:3.5
2) 80mm, Chrome, f:2.8
3) 80mm, Black, w/plain shutter cocking lever
4) 80mm, Black, w/Blue Dot, shutter cocking lever
5) 80mm, Black-S, w/Blue Dot, shutter cocking lever, and the face of the lenses are void of any marking,
and this latest of the Mamiya TLR lenses had the best muti-coating.

Two C330 cameras; Left an old chrome lens, Right the latest Black-S lens
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/93/245447845_48e6be09ac.jpg
Mamiya C33, w/80mm, Black-non blue dot lens
http://www.cybergallery66.org/10/da/a/i/cam/mami01.jpg
Mamiya C330S, w/80mm, Black-Blue dot lens
http://mcalisterium.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/mg_8924.jpg
Mamiya C330S, w/80mm,"Black S" lens, (also w/Blue Dot")
http://www.cretephotography.com/images/Mamiya%20C330/700_9623.jpg

G.
