glenbarrington
Can anyone suggest a good reference book on Prarie flowers? Ideally, it wouldhave a lot of info on the kinds of Prarie flowers found in the North Americanrolling prarie of Illinois and Indiana. The perfect book would help me identify the plants and also give someinteresting background info. I just don't know nearly enough. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. rick_sikora
Glen, I'm sure you will get a lot of good a lot of suggestions. I am looking for a field guide that I have that has the flowers divided based on color. Very convenient, but I just can't lay my hands on it right now. In the meantime these might help and you might want to check these out: "Wildflowers of Illinois Woodlands" by Runkel and Bull, Iowa State University Press ISBN 0-8138-1990-3 "Wildflowers of the Tallgrass Praire The Upper Midwest" by Runkel and Roosa ISBN0-8138-1979-2 "Wildflowers of Indiana Woodlands" by Runkel and Bull no ISBN available In the meantime I will keep looking for my other field guide. bill_atwood
Tallgrass Prairie Wildflowers by Doug Ladd and Frank Oberle may be the "by color" guide Rick is looking for.
glenbarrington
Thanks, quite coincidentally, I ordered "Tallgrass Prairie Wildflowers" from Amazon!
sarah maxwell
You know, I am a big fan of the Audobon Society's field guides...I am sure that they have one to cover the midwestern states. The one from the Southeastern states has been a wonderful help to me! Good luck!
