stephen_persky
Just wanted to say thanks for all the advice and support with my numerous Tri-X questions. This morning a shot a roll at EI 400 and developed for 9 minutes in Xtol 1:1 at 20 deg C. with agitation 5 inversion every minute and begining inversions for the first 30 seconds. Fixed with TF-4. The results where great. I love the grain pattern. I figured it would take alot longer to get good results, but I am now sold! Here is a sample from that roll. I posted in on the Leica forum so sorry if you think it is redundent.<div></div>

psychophoto
Looks good. Granted, it's just a scan, but I suspect you are a little lacking in shadow information. I've never seen an EI 400 Tri-X negative that had full shadow information. When you feel like experimenting again some time, give it a go at 200 and drop your dev down accordingly. It's a great film, and everybody shoots it a little differently. Best to keep experimenting and see what you like best.
rustys pics
A great shot. Welcome to the world of Black & white photography!Tri-X is still one of the best Black & White films out there, even 50 years later. I think the "new" Tri-X was actually a huge improvement over the old. About your shadow detail, I don't see it as a problem on this shot. Most likely the red filter you used compressed them. What you lost in shadows you gained in sky contrast and tonal seperation.
stephen_persky
I had a little more ground detail (shadow detail). I burned that shadow detail out to make what I thought was a more profound image. Glad you like it. Steve
