how to use settings on the Flash

i have a Nikon D80, with an 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX Zoom & 70mm - 300mm f/4-5.6G ED AF-S DX VR,

and a Bower BOSFD35N SFD35N Digital Flash for Nikon i-TTL. I am new to photography and I would like to know

how or where I can find layman’s information on the proper way to use the settings on the flash for taking pictures.

I am not aware on a simular site for Nikon Speedlight but there is a Canon flash site that contain a good collection of basic flash info. You may find it interesting or helpfull. I shoot both Nikon and Canon systems. The two are close enough. You should not have much problem reading. See Link.
