How to sell and how to price

Recommended Posts

I hope i am posting in the right place.

That best describes the info i am looking for.

I have a few cameras and some spare parts. Right off the bat i am certain i

dont have anything of any real value. Its just that i would like some advice,

if possible, on what the values would be, where best to pose this question,

and any other advice you might want to give.

Once i get an idea of how to go about this then i can list all the items that

i have. For now, i will just start out with a few.

I have one of those old brownie cameras in my attic. Do they have any value?

I have a lens with the following markings on it: Hanimex automatic 1,28

f=135mm 55 and a number, i imagine a serial number. Since i know nothing

about photography i cant comment on the condition of this but it appears it

hasnt had a lot of use. I say that because i was able to pull up pics of this

lens from ebay and some of the lenses had signs of wear that this doesnt.

Also, i saw prices from about, if i recall correctly they were asking around

$60 or $70 for these. But again i know nothing and its even hard to figure out

Ebay as a lot of things are listed at a bid price. Here is one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/HANIMEX-AUTOMATIC-135mm-1-2-8-LENS-for-

MINOLTA_W0QQitemZ110084335330QQcategoryZ48554QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewI

tem

Another lens with these markings: COSINON AUTO F=2.8 f=55 Cosina Co Ltd

Japan Again, i know nothing about these. All i can say is the lens seems to

have a bit of wear.

Any help with this would be appreciated. What they are worth in US dollars and

where would be the best place to try and sell them. I am in Canada, close to

the US border.

Thanks

I'd have to say ebay, you can sell anything on there, but don't be dissapointed if you don't get the $70 or $80 quoted above. but good luck, and happy ebaying, its great fun and an experience

Dan ps. start the bidding low and i'd say not to use a reserve, it puts people off, however it makes it more risky for you

Hi Gary, I can't speak to the worth of your items but try looking at websites such keh.com, bhphoto.com, cameraquest.com, adorama.com under their used camera equipment sections. This could be a start for finding prices. Of course you will not be able to price your items as high as theirs because yours is not tested and not offered with a warranty. You can also take a picture of items and post them under the correct forum (e.g. classic cameras) to have people with expertise identify them. Try selling on craigslist.org and remember that Ebay charges a listing fee and 3% fee dependent on final sale cost. Ebay also tacks on another 3% for using Paypal.

Good luck,

John

Thank you for taking time to help me out. Thats a fair amount of info there.

If any of you wouldnt mind giving me their opinion of the value of these items, i would appreciate it. I know you have pointed out where i might get such info, but i am asking your opinion. You are all into cameras so your opinion of value should certainly count.

And yes, i dont expect to get the kind of money i mentioned, i was just pointing out what i had found on ebay. That was the high end, there is a low end too, lol.

And, of course, if anyone should happen to be interested in any of these items please contact me here or via email (kingbee (at) cogeco (dot) ca.

thanks again
