christos_chatzoglou
Hi.I"m looking to scan 617 at one shoot, with nicon coolscan 9000.Unfortunally all the softwares that i tried (niconscan-silverfast-vewscan), gives me maximum 6x9 format, so i have to merge them (too time consuming).I have the epson v750, whice is capable to scan 617 at one shoot, but the result is not as good as is the scanned photos from the nikon scanner.Does anyone have, any solution?Thank you.Christos. christos_chatzoglou
I"m not a professional and neither a rich man. So i cann't invest to one so expensive scanner. Anyway thank you for your instant answer. Christos
q.g._de_bakker
Christos,

I don't know a cheap solution, but do know that you should not spend time looking for a software solution for your Nikon scanner: Nikon 9000 (and 8000) scanners are mechanically limited to 6x9 as maximum. The carrier used for the fine movement during scanning has a travel range of only that length.
ellis_vener_photography
try fluid mounting with the V-750M in that case: much better results than using the standard epson holders: film is flatter , dMAx range is increased. The two downsides are that it takes more time and you can't use digital ICE for scanner based dust busting.
christos_chatzoglou
Q.G. de Bekker and Ellis, thank you.I"m thinking to order the fluid mount for epson, hopping that the scanning process will be, less time consuming than merging two images in P.S.Ellis, are you sure that Dmax increase with fluid mount?I never thought it.Using just an antinewton glass plus the apropriate holder, will be big difference in comparison with the result from fluid mounting system?Cristos.Christos
kparratt
Were I going to be doing serious printing from film scans, I would have bought the V750 for the reasons Ellis has stated. (Because I'm using it mostly for Web work, I settled for the V700) Christos, I don't remember the website where I saw it all, but was very impressed with the results of wet scanning with the V750. Such that it was very close to drum scanning. For most non-wealthy blokes like us, the V750 is one of the best deals on the market today. Cheers, Kevin. hakon_soreide
Merging two images im PS might be time consuming, but it's a lot less so using panorama software, like PTgui, which takes care of all the fine adjustments that you'd otherwise have to spend a long time doing manually in PS. It would be less work than doing fluid mounting on a V750.
christos_chatzoglou
Hakon. Most softwares for merging panoramas like P.S. using just 8 bits. When is necessery to work with 16 bits (possibity to post processing without degrading the quality of your image)what are you doing? Is PTgui, combatible with 16 bits images? With epson v750, someone could scan and have result a complete panorama image at 16 bit. photonaturally
How about paying a GOOD lab to scan for you?
User_503771
You might also consider replacing your Epson film holders with the custom ones that you can fine-tune and adjust. Here is one review of one product I saw while surfing around (I have no affiliation with anybody): http://www.photo-i.co.uk/Reviews/interactive/Epson%204870/DF_holder/MF.htm Hope this helps. stuart_richardson
An Imacon 343 can do up to 6x18 and it is not nearly as expensive at a 949...It was originally 5000 dollars new and you should be able to find it for well under that now.
