How to light with a projector (NWS)

I was going through some images the other day, and ran across one that really caught my eye. The photographer had used a projector to put a texture across his model. I love how it looks, and want to try it out. I would love to find more examples, but haven't had much luck... im not even sure where this image originally came from.

Where would be a good starting point to try this out? I assume i would have to either use a slow shutter speed or crank up the ISO.

Where i work has a projector that we dont use, so it would be easy to borrow it for a shoot.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can give me some direction.

This is an awesome shot. Back in the day, we'd use slide film and a projector. Nowadays you can use your digital images with a laptop projector. The former burns a bit hotter. But don't assume you'd need high ISO or slow Shutter. These things all throw a lot of light.

The challenge here is to light only the model, not the backgrund. This was probably accomplished by having the projector off to the side, using flags, and having the dark background a good distance from the model.

Thanks for sharing, I think I'll be doing some more of these this weekend now.

Yes, it's an interesting technique. Dress a model in a white leotard and you could project whatever you wanted onto her- even Miss July! Here's a picture I took of a slide of Sigmund Freud being projected onto a woman's face...

I think the exposure wouldn't necessarily be a problem- slide projectors are quite bright.
