charlesp
I would like to attach a Rosco sheet filter to a lightbox. Are there any suggestions for a method/materials that would allow no-hassle attachment and removal?

ellis_vener_photography
masking tape? Bad idea! Use wooden clothes pins
garry edwards
Ellis, I had an assistant once who used masking tape for everything, including repairing his car! Good snapper, bad mechanic.... <br>I use masking tape for temporary fixing of gels, it holds well, and is easily removed without damage or leaving any residues. I'd be very interested to know why you think it's a bad idea.
cgo
Duct Tape wouldn't be a good idea ...
charlesp
What I was thinking of was a light, rigid frame to affix the filter to, and store the filter on this frame.Otherwise, you have to attach and remove, re-roll the filter etc, so more chance of damage. I meant to also ask if it is advisable to attach these filters to barn doors on 1000 watt hot lights. Instant meltdown?
ellis_vener_photography
Lowel makes a 10" x 10" or 12" x 12" thing called a totaframe that holds gels in front of their 1,000 wat tota light. . Generally what I see people use, and what I use , is the humble wooden clothes pin even for 650 watt Arri focusing spot lights (we attach them to the barndoors.) You have to make sure there is plenty of room for air circulation between the light and the gel. The problem with masking tape is the residue and it doesn't hold as well as gaffer tape or clothes pins.
charlesp
Ellis Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, in my case I am using a 36 x 48 softbox. I guess I'll make a lightweight hardwood frame, staple the filter sheets to it, and use your clothespin suggestion.
twmeyer
I use "binder clips" from an office supply shop to hold all sorts of gels into softboxes. They clamp to the rods, and come in many sizes for pennies apiece... t
charlesp
Tom, I know the clamps you mean. Really strong and tidy! I'll try them.
