olivier_reichenbach
Can anyone help me locate a cap for the rectangular hood (Nr 12524) of my pre-asph 35 Summicron, either new (?) or used ? It is so difficult to get Leica accessories here in Montreal it's unbelievable. I'd buy online in the US if need be. Also, has anyone used the same hood on a 50 'Cron with the same efficiency as the big round one AND without vignetting? Thank you all.
sal dimarco
Olivier, Leica never made one for the pre-asph 35mm Summicron.
bert_keuken2
Olivier there never has been a cap for the 12524 hood! You can order the hood (12526) for the Summicron 35 ASPH, according to Leica it will fit the pre-ASPH Summicron.

The new lens hood can also be used with the foregoing model SUMMICRON-M f/2/35 mm (order number 11310 or 11311).It can be reordered as a replacement (order number 12 526) and comes with the new protective cover.
jfm
Yes, # on the inside of my hood is 14043. This fits my #12524 lens hood that fits my pre-asph 35mm F2 (4th version). I bought this lens used from B and H, and then bought the lens hood cap downstairs(new). Give them a ring.best,Jeffrey
ray .
This question was asked a little while back (check my post responses) likewise with some answering they didn't think the hood came with a cap. It does. I also have # 14043 for the rectangular hood cap, however my plastic rectangular hood it goes to is # 12526 with A42 embossed following. It's for pre-asph 35 summicron #3522xxx. I got the hood which came with cap at Samy's Camera in L.A. for $75. The hood also fits my tabbed 50 Summicron and 90 tele-elmarit, however unlike the 35 which snaps perfectly into a stationary position, on these other lenses the hood will turn. Still works well though. You might try calling Leica directly for the cap.
ray .
Perhaps Bert is more specifically correct. BTW, no vignetting using the rect hood on the 50 or 90. In some respects seems to be a better hood than the round one.
karl_yik1
I had a 4th version 35 cron and a 35 cron ASPH and the hoods seemed identical, the caps are freely available (as Leica knows that they get lost very easily!! ;] ) , hell.... you may even get lucky and find one on the pavement! jay_.
I've got the cap and no lens for it. I'll sell it for $35 including shipping. VISA/MC ok. E-mail me off list. infinitydt@aol.com
john_collier2
Boy does this one come up often. The 12524 and 12526 are identical except for the two nubs at the front of the hood. On the 12524, the nubs are rounded and will not hold onto the 14043 hood cap very well. The nubs were meant to assist you when (un)mounting the hood. On the 12526, the nubs are slightly larger and have a sharp edge to hold on the hood cap (does not do a good enough job in my books). The 12524 was supplied with the last 35/2 before the asph was introduced and did not come with the 14043 hood cap. How do I know? One, Leica says so. Two, I bought one of the very last production pre-asph 35/2 after the Asph was introduced. I did buy the 14043 for my pre-asph lens and it went with the lens when I later sold it to finance a 35/1.4A. I would not recommend getting the hood cap myself. The darn thing falls off too easily on either hood. Just get small elastized "sock" of a suitable material to slip over the hood. It will be cheaper and work better. douglas k.
B&H sells the hood cap for $20. It falls right off, so buy a dozen or so.
ray .
Well, the 14043 cap may fall "right off" the 12524 hood, I don't know, but I can tell you first hand it's fairly secure on the 12526 hood, unless you're rough or careless when carrying your camera. Also the nubs people have mentioned, on the 12526 hood at least, are certainly for the purpose of keeping the cap snapped on, not to assist handling the hood. olivier_reichenbach
Now, I understand why I never got the cap when I bought the (used) lens. Thank you all for your help.
