pcm__
Hi everyone, not sure exactly where to post this, but I am still running Adobe CS and have absolutely 0 motivation to upgrade to CS2 since I am running a new Mac Book Pro and shoddy rosetta performance will not increase until CS3 (per adobe release notes). I'm absolutely fine with sticking with CS until CS3 except for one NASTY little catch... Adobe Camera RAW does not support the Panasonic LX1 unless you buy CS2. Argghh. Anyway, is there any other way to open LX1 RAW images without having to buy CS2? Someone told me there's a command line software but not really interested in that - sort of defeats the purpose. Interested in DNG converter which I thought was a standalone but can't find it anywhere. Any options here besides getting screwed on buying poor-intel permforming CS2? godfrey
Actually, CS2 runs a little faster on PowerPC than CS does ... Adobe did some optimization that improved performance ... so buying the CS2 upgrade would likely net you a small increase in performance as well as the ability to use the latest Bridge and Camera Raw plugins. Both of which alone could well make your image processing work faster and more productive.

But ... If you don't want to buy the CS2 upgrade and then the CS3 upgrade again 6 or whatever number of months from now, you can download the Camera Raw & DNG Converter v3.4 package from this page:

www.adobe.com/support/ downloads...

Don't install Camera Raw v3.4. Stick DNG Converter v3.4 into the Applications folder ... it is fully standalone. It will render the LX1 .RAW files into .DNG files that can be opened by Photoshop CS + Camera Raw v2.4.

Another thing you can do is download Adobe Lightroom Beta 3 from http:// labs.adobe.com/technologies/lightroom/. It will also perform RAW conversion on Panasonic LX1 .RAW files and process them to .PSD or .TIFF format. Lightroom is a Universal Binary (since beta 2).

enjoy
Godfrey
