Help - Using a cable release on Bronica Etrsi

Discussion in 'Medium Format' started by steve_mepsted, Jan 5, 2019.

  1. Hi there I would like to use a standard cable release on my Bronica ETRSI. I have read that switching the lens to T will allow the release to be used. However the shutter will remain open until the lens is switched back to A
I am using a tripod and wish to use the release to fire off the shutter and close it at all speeds - not necessarily for speeds slower than 8 secs or on Bulb but faster speeds such as 1/250

I cannot seem to make this work. Any advice greatly appreciated.
    Thanks Steve

  2. Thank you but that is where I found the information I described regarding the lens switch. It doesn’t really help me.
I need to know how to use the cable release to open and close shutter in a synchronised fashion

  3. I briefly owned an ETRS system, although never did used it with a cable release.

With that said, I did use an SQ-A as my primary MF camera for several years, and it's essentially just a larger ETRS.

I never had issues just screwing in a plain cable release and firing the shutter(usually with mirror lock-up). It would fire at the speed set on on the camera body as long as the T switch on the lens was not in the T position.

It sounds like this is what you're trying to do.

  4. ^ I have the same experience as Ben with my SQAi.

  5. I use my ETRSi quite frequently. It sounds like they function like the SQ-A as far the shutter release. I use a shutter release probably 50% (with mlu 25% of the time) and the ETRSi fires at the speed set on the camera.

As Ben says" It would fire at the speed set on on the camera body as long as the T switch on the lens was not in the T position.

It sounds like this is what you're trying to do. "

Leave the T switch alone unless shooting a time exposure. The T switch is very handy when shooting long exposures.

I use a standard screw in cable release.

  6. On your ETRSi, just use a standard cable release. No need to do anything with the lens.
