I use the 120 for close up pictures such as flowers. Sometimes I

cannot get close enough to the objects and I am thinking for buying

a 2x converter with it. I use tripod in these situations and I am

aware that the lens become 240/f8 Is it a good idea? How about using

a 250CFi.

I am sorry that I have not make myself clear. I cound not bring the lens close enough to the subject because of, for instance, some thing in the middle of a pond. I would need longer focal length for that. ? 240/f8 ( 120 +2X) or 250 CFi.

Hasselblad does not recommend use of any extender with the

120/4. You will need something like the 180/4 + extender, or a

250/5.6 to reach out to distant objects. You may even consider

the 350/5.6 if you can find a nice used one. Its big but it does

reach out quite nicely.

Yea, you can use the converter, but keep it in the close up mode. like a tight head shot or closer. No Problem at all. I think those other guys answering do not have the combo, I do and it works, if you are trying to get a 2x go for the Mutar, it is Zeiss and nice.

Edward, I do have the 120/4 and 2X Mutar. The question Vincent

asked is "how do I reach out to the middle of the pond to shoot

something" That isn't the same as your answer where you

advise staying in close. Hasselblad does not recommend use

of the 2X with the 120 because of the flat field macro lens design

is degraded.

The 2X is better applied to true telephoto designs like the 150,

180 or 250 where there is less image degradation.

Yea you're right too. TO reach the middle of the pond a telephoto is needed. I have found that the 180mm and the 2x are a wonderful combo. The mtf curves indicate it is very sharp and my experience is that it is very sharp. The 250 and the mutar are a wonderful combination.I find no degradation of the image with the mutar. I have ye to try the mutar ona 350 APO or 500 APO. The 350 and 500 tessars give chromatic aberations and you can do as well with 180 or 250 and a mutar.
