geoffrey_wren
I have acquired from a relative a nice SWC. I understand that the filter mount is "series 7," but I don't really understand what that means. I want to use black and white filtering on the camera. Are adapters available? If so, what should I look for? Are there any sources for used series 7 filters? Geoff Wren gwren@teleport.com
deardorff8x10
When I had that camera, I used a Lee 67 filter mount and it fit fine. Some 67 have the right thread pitch and others don't. From what I undertand, the series 7 are to be held in with the hood and have a thicker spacing on one side so they don't touch the lens.
peter brown - www.peterbro
Hi Geoff,
The SWC has a 67mm screw thread and the Lee filter adapter and lens hood fits perfectly, as do the Hoya filters but the Heliopan seem to jam after a couple of turns. It's a bit of a matter of trial and error with the different brands.
I believe that Kodak series 8 filters will also work well, although I haven't tried these myself.
The best hood/filter combo I have tried is the Lee hood with single filter slot.
Kind regards,
Peter Brown
http://www.peter-brown -photographer.com
stephen_w.
I got a ton of Ser. VIII for the SWC cheap on epay. It was harder finding a retaining ring and too costly for the orig. hood. So I went the E67 way with thin Rodenstock UV (epay) and Tiffen Pol. A generic solid Aluminum 67mm screw-in cap followed. All threads mate up w/o binding. godfrey
One detail that the friend who loaned me his SWC informed me of: the filter mount brings the glass of the filter extremely close to the front element of the Biogon. The correct filters for the SWC have the glass slightly offset away from the lens. Using the wrong ones, or installing them backwards by accident, can mar the lens coating right in the center of the lens.

So be careful...

Godfrey
jerry_lehrer
Geoff Series 8 filters and retaining rings always seem to be available at camera shows. Jerry
ted_roberts
Hello:I believe that the original filter diameter for your SWC was a Series 63 which are attached to the lens by means of a filter holder or the Lens Shade 38 which are made for the 38mm Biogon. You can use 67mm screw thread filters (ie B+W) but they have to be the slim mounts. I purchased a SWC/M last year and after using a 67mm filter did not care for it because you can't use a lens shade unless you use the Lee filter system which is big and bulky. I elected to search for the original Hasselblad Series 63 through eBay and used camera dealers having more luck through the several dealers. I now have all the filters for the camera plus an original 38mm lens shade. If your interested in B&W they are readily available in the series 63 and priced reasonably. Let me know if your need some sources. Have fun with the SWC!Ted
jerry_lehrer
Ted Plain and simple, the SWC uses a Series 8 (Kodak) thread for thelens hood, which acts as a retaining ring for the filters. Metricthreads may not exactly fit. The pitch is different. I have seenseveral SWC's (and 50mm C lenses) with frozen metric filters. If you can't spring for the H'blad stuff, find a Kodak Series 8lens hood and trim the length. I did two for my SWC-M, one for6x6 format and one for the A16 back. hasselblad technician
Geoff, The SWC accepts 63mm non-threaded filters, and they are held in place with either a filter retaining ring or the lens shade. I have both a Hasselblad black and a chrome filter retaining ring for sale, and the price is $50.00. David S.
