neil_swanson
Let's say I've opened a NEF in NC 4.3, made some changes and then tell NC to open the image in CS. The changes I've made to contrast or sharpening etc are still there when the image opens in CS correct? I see I have options to open in CS in 16 bit, or save and open in CS. I just want to know the changes carry over.
ducksquat
Yes, they do. That's why I take all the sharpening out so I can fully control it in CS2.
michael_spencer3
Neil, Think of it this way: your NEF file is comprised of basically two parts. The first part is a list of settings or actions to be performed on the raw data. The second part is the raw data itself. The RAW data is merely a set of grey values that correspond to the amount of light falling into each of the sensor's light tubes. In order to "convert" the raw data to a useful image lots of things have to happen including the creation of RGB pixels, but a part of the conversion process also includes applying settings such as white balance, levels compensation, sharpening and so forth.
