Global Moment In Time

Yesterday, Tero came up with an idea.... http://www.photo.net/photo/6902419

If someone someday comes up with an idea to create a massive collaborative

shooting moment around the clobe and after that sharing the results here...

count me in."

Now some of us think this is an excellent idea. We choose a date and time (in

UTC so it's at the same moment globally) at some point in the near future, and

take a photograph of where we are. And then we upload our pictures with a

simple title consisting of date, time, location and photog name. Maybe it

could be in the "No Words" forum? Or maybe it would be better if all the

pictures were emailed to someone who could then set up a gallery in PN to hold

them. Josh, Bob, et al - would it be possible to have somewhere to upload

them?

Anyone else think this would be fun and interesting?

If someone wanted to figure out the date/time situation, I would be happy to put it in the newsletter as the "project of the month", for the March issue. We'll need to figure it out before Monday of next week if you are interested.

I would say you have two choices:

1. Pick a static time. No offense to our other users, but you will hit the largest percentage of photo.net users if you pick a time when the USA and Europe are in the light.

or

2. Pick local time (4:35pm on March 30th), then everyone can take a photo at the same moment according to their local clocks. It's not quite the same thing, but might be better if you are worried about including more people.

Feel free to contact me via email if needed. contact@photo.net

Darkness shouldn't matter - out with the ol' tripods!

Josh, it would be great if it could make it into the newsletter. Perhaps we could all think about pros and cons of particular times and days over the next 48 hours, and come up with an action plan by Thursday?

Alex, I'm a bit worried about the earthquake thing :))

<p>

That is fine with me. Like I said, I would need to have the details settled by Monday of next week (the 17th). But earlier is better.

<i>"Let's do it on the vernal equinox (Approx March 20-21) don't know exact GMT time"</i>

<p>

Sadly, if we want to harness the power of the photo.net newsletter, we probably need it to be a few days later. I have a feeling that the newsletter will go out the 19th or 20th.

<p>

<i>"I'd like to give it a try. How about 2 separate projects? One for UTC for those willing to go out in the dark, and one for local time for those who aren't."</i>

<p>

If it were up to me (and it isn't, I'm just helping promote the project), I would say pick one and go with it. If it works well, we can do the other one next time.
