For who it may concern:

the Nikon 80-200mm 2.8 AF-S hood (HB-17) is discontinued and almost impossible

to find.

I went to B&H today and took my 80-200mm 2.8 AF-S and try the hood for the

70-200mm 2.8VR (HB-29) and IT FIT perfectly, even lock into place.

So if buying a used 80-200mm 2.8 AF-S w/o hood or the hood of your need

replacement there you have a alternative to the discontinued HB-17..

PS: IT DOESN'T FIT THE 80-200mm 2.8D AF (two rings).

hope it helps someone, I was looking for this same info some time ago and wasn't

able to find any concrete answer..:)

I did something similar when I bought the Nikon AF-S 70-300mm f4.5-5.6 VR. I did not

like the long hood that came with it because I use a Lowepro TLZ2 holster bag and HB-36 in

place is too long, I want my camera immediately accessible. The is more for protection than

light refraction. I looked around for a shorter one and found that the HB-28 fit, only slightly

loose.
