rod_evans
Fellow Photographers, In an effort to make my 600mm manual focus lens more usable for flying birds and fast moving critters of all kinds I thought I might try the freeze focus. I understand it is a data back feature though I'm not sure wich one. My camera is a Nikon F4. Can anyone tell me which data back to get and more importantly, does anyone have any pratical experience with freeze focus. Does it really work? And how effective is it for the above mentioned subjects? Thanks to all Rod
danny_weber
MF-23. I use this feature for macro work, moving the camera slowly into place until the shutter fires. I think you'll find it frustrating for fast-moving subjects, which might move out of the plane of focus by the time the shutter fires.
stephen_vaughan1
I tried to use the trap focus function for birds landing on perches and found that it was too slow. I ended up with portraits after they had landed instead of images of them landing. I don't think it is a worth while tool for flight shots. You would have to prefocus at a distance and wait for the bird to come to that point. It is easier to do that manually than with the trap focus feature.
