marc_rochkind
Today's article appeared in The New York Times Magazine: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/07/05/magazine/robert-franks-america.html
There I learned that the editors of Popular Photography didn't like the book. Quoting from the article: "The editors of Popular Photography derided Frank’s 'warped,' 'wart-covered' 'images of hate.'"
Interesting... so I tracked down the article, actually seven short reviews by some well-known (of the day) Pop Photo editors. Alas, my May 1960 issue got water-logged when our ice maker leaked, but it still reads OK:
http://basepath.com/blog/PP-TheAmericans/
Enjoy!
