Found film--subminiature style

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

Inspired by Gene M, I decided to develop the half-

used cartridge of film I found in a little black Minolta MG-S (16mm

film subminiature camera) I bought recently. The MG-S production run

began in 1970, according to submin.com. Thus, I'm just BARELY off-

topic here and I hope y'all will indulge me.

This little

beauty is suffering from a stuck shutter, which I plan to remedy

soon. Anyway, I took out the film cartridge, since I had unwittingly

light-fogged it in mid-stream, and popped it in my chrome MG-S to

shoot the remainder. (None of mine turned out very good.) I then

unloaded the Minolta film cartridge in my darkbag, put the 16mm film

in a light-proof film container, and handed it over to my local 1 hr.

lab. They are a reliable "Mom-n-Pop" type lab which works with me and

my 110/16mm submini habit.

Though strange color casts

resulted, it was a nice surprise when I found several images that

came out on the film. <a

Micah - Thanks for sharing - memories come flooding back - the Jag is an XJ6 4.2 identical to one I owned until eight years ago - magnificent beast. BTW, junior is not sitting in the Jag. The cooling systems were adequate for the cool UK climate, but not for anywhere warmer. The Jag and my Nikon F were never far apart. One was fickle, the other totally reliable. Didn't matter, still loved them both.

Aizan, Gene, & Graham: Thanks for the nice words!

Jorn: For new film, I'm going to use 16mm Kodak Plus-X movie film and Fuji Super HR microfilm (for B&W) or Fuji Superia 100 color print (slit down myself from 35mm). Minolta's 16mm film cartridges were designed to be reloadable--the very reason I don't hand them over to the photo lab, they'll get tossed--and are kinda scarce. I've managed to obtain 4 or 5 of them and I can slit film from 35mm cartridge in a darkbag and reload a cartridge in about 15 minutes or so.

I appreciate the opportunity to present these images to you all.

Looking carefully at the background of picture #2 of grandma.

Notice the movie light hanging from the cieling and next to it is an

older photoflood light. Look farther back under the bleach bottle

and I see a kodak box.

Now if you look at picture # 3 of grandpa in the work shop, notice

the empty 8mm movie reel hanging on the wall next to his head

right side of picture. To the left of the picture you can see

possibly round clear plastic filter boxes. There is also a waltz box

and several yellow possibly kodak movie reel boxes.

Do you folks agree ? Could grandpa be a movie - photo buff ?

You know like the guy form Hogans Heroes?
