incidentally, I accidentally exposed a Tmax400 at 125asa. I developed it for 125asa (in XTOL) and the results were pretty damn good. Quite similar to the Foma 200 that had been exposed at 125asa.

FP4, though, at 125asa still beats both the above films.

Yes, Tmax400 shot at EI = 125 works well with reduced development. The lower contrast index of about 0.5 is not a problem for negatives that will be scanned rather than go into an enlarger. I reckon Fomapan 200 is at its best at EI = 100 and developed in Xtol. It has been said of Ilford FP4+ that everyone of its qualities is bettered by another film. There are faster films, slower films, finer grained films, sharper films, and films that can deliver higher and lower contrasts BUT if the choices in photography were reduced to only one emulsion I should prefer that FP4+ is it.
